Morsjaya Commercial Center

Morsjaya Commercial Center is located along Jalan Miri-Bintulu road and is one of the earlier townships located further from town in Miri and is still one of the busiest.

Early Days

To picture Miri when the township came to know oil, we have to project ourselves into a very different past. When the original Shell men arrived, it consisted of 20 scattered houses and a few shops. These included a bazaar, a gambling farm, a pawn shop and an Arab shop. The trade of Miri consisted chiefly of jelutong, brassware, belachan and budu.

Shrimp Harvest (Bubuk)

The catching of bubuk is an annual cycle in Miri. During this phenomenon these shrimps arrive in the millions in the shallow waters of the sea off the beaches of Miri, and the fisherfolks using their fishing tool, known as the 'paka', scoop them up from the waters by wading into the sea.

Miri Crocodile Farm

Located near Kuala Baram River Mouth (previous Ferry Terminal), a pleasant scenic coastal drive along Miri-Kuala Baram Road from Miri will take you to the Crocodile Farm in 20 minutes. The first and the largest Crocodile Farm in the northern region of Sarawak.
