Mukah is a coastal town in the Mukah District in the Mukah Division of Sarawak by the South China Sea. Mukah is also accessible by air by MASwings from Miri. The duration of the flights is approximately an hour. Historically, Mukah was an ancient trading and fishing port, situated at the mouth of the Mukah River adjacent to the South China Sea, and originally an outpost of the Sultanate of Brunei which later became part of Sarawak in 1861. The "Pesta Kaul" festival, celebrated by the local fishermen in April is one of the many major events of the Melanau calendar.
