The Old Fish Market, located in the old town center, is the oldest fish market in Miri. In the old days, its location at the river side is the most suitable spot for landing fish caught from the rivers and seas, to be weighed and sold to the local populace. Nowadays, with the Miri River next to it having been filled in (the shore line and peninsular have been changed for the land reclamation of the Marina Bay) so it no longer has the benefit of being next to the river for unloading fish supplies directly from boats, but despite this plenty of fresh fish were still being brought in from elsewhere by land.
The historical market has been demolished and the fish market moved to a new location near the waterfront. The old building had been demolished to make way for an intersection connecting the Marina Times Square.
A small, neglected Colonial era cemetery is located in between Gymkhana Club Miri and St. Columba's primary school. The cemetery contains a mix of European ex-pats, Chinese & orang Asli graves with marker stones. 
Taman Tunku is a large residential area located just beside Miri Airport spanning about 3 kilometers running from north to south with its own commercial centers within.

In the 1920s, these were the years when the Miri field began to decline. Exploration was carried out further and further afield. In 1926 an exploratory team had gone as far as Padang Barawa between the Sungai Seria and Sungai Barawa. Not much attention was paid to their findings then, but now with the Miri field declining the old maps and charts were taken out and studied again.
