Lutong River

Lutong River is a river that flows North-South along the coast to the west of Lutong town. The river goes through a mangrove swamp.
Pollution
In 2007, crude oil that was being transported from an underground pipeline sprung a leak of an undertermined amount along the Lutong river was detected. The spill affected over 1,000 families in the area as a result, some directly as a result of fumes from the leak, and others indirectly as they depended on fishing in the river. The leak caused caused damage to the environment and wildlife in the area.

In the 1920s, these were the years when the Miri field began to decline. Exploration was carried out further and further afield. In 1926 an exploratory team had gone as far as Padang Barawa between the Sungai Seria and Sungai Barawa. Not much attention was paid to their findings then, but now with the Miri field declining the old maps and charts were taken out and studied again.
