Krokop is a large residential area and industrial area that spans from Jalan Krokop Utama to Jalan Jee Foh and Jalan Krokop 1 Road to Jalan Krokop 10 Road, and it is one of the oldest residential areas in Miri. Krokop is only a 5 minute drive from city center.
Originally, ethic chinese of different descent consisting mainly of Hokkien and Hakka came here to settle down in Krokop and build their houses at the start of the 20th century. They were mainly farmers, and they reared farmed animals like chicken and pigs to meet the poultry and meat demands of the booming population of Miri.
Water wells were also a familiar sight in those early days - the residents of Krokop used to dig wells on their land to get water supply to for their water needs such as laundry, washing and cooking. The water from the wells were clear and very cold. These wells could still be seen used even until the late 1980s. Today, a lot of these wells had been sealed in as tap water supply are now standard feature in many homes.

The Krokop 10 Market located at Jalan Krokop 10 is a popular morning market and eatery for many living in Krokop and nearby Piasau.
