Video of sudden downpour of torrential rain for just over an hour causes flash floods around Miri town at noon 3rd of February, 2009. The higher-than-usual amount of precipitation over the past month also caused many landslides, potholes and road breakages, flooding and bridge collapses around Miri, taxing rescue workers and engineers and endangering lives.

River Road was the name of the road that stretches from the Tua Pek Kong Temple, past the fish market, old bus station (now a roundabout), the old Miri Port Authority Building (now Arcadia Square), ending at the old shop houses of what is now known as the Harbour View Inn building.
In the old days, a ferry allows commuters to cross the river from the town to the Miri peninsula conveniently. The ferry is also vital to the hospital emergency responses.
Tanjung Lobang & Taman Selera is one of the older beach areas in Miri that was developed as a public area that has a park and food stall area.
The Miri Long Jetty was a mile long and stretches out into the sea. This jetty was built so that cargo is easily offloaded from ships to Miri at the tip of the Miri Peninsular. The Long Jetty was a considerable place of interest in the 1970 to late 1990s.
