Video of sudden downpour of torrential rain for just over an hour causes flash floods around Miri town at noon 3rd of February, 2009. The higher-than-usual amount of precipitation over the past month also caused many landslides, potholes and road breakages, flooding and bridge collapses around Miri, taxing rescue workers and engineers and endangering lives.

'Commercial shipping' utilizing Miri as a port goes back to as early as when Miri was merely a fishing village.
