When in Miri one shouldn't miss the opportunity to sample some birds' nest. Initially most of the birds' nest were cultivated from the famous Niah Caves. In recent times, traders have set up bird houses to the same effect, and the nests are farmed after the nests had been abandoned. The nest is made by swallows using their saliva. This dessert is usually available in up market chinese restaurants, in most cases these desserts have to be pre-ordered.
You can buy them dried and pre-packed as sourvenirs from birds' nest shops.
