Miri has long been known for its exotic national parks and caves, its under water world is now gaining attention of scuba divers ever since the untouched coral reefs were discovered in recent years.
Divers, from beginners to those who have dived all the world famous spots, have nothing but praise for the reefs around Miri. The reefs here are all patch reefs with varying depths from 7 to 30 meters with average visibility of 10 to 30 meters.
The variety of corals and other marine life on the reefs rivals the best in the region. Hard and soft corals cover the entire reefs. Gorgonians, sea-whips, anemones, sponges and crinoids are abundant. Reef fish like the angel fish, butterfly fish, fusiliers, groupers, stingrays, trigger fish, parrot fish, wrasses are among the numerous species that can be seen. 40 species of nudibranchs have already been sighted.
The dive locations have next to no current most of the time and water temperature averages 30 degree Celsius. PADI trained divemaster or instructor is on hand during all boat dives to ensure a safe and pleasurable diving experience.

Co.Co.Dive (formerly known as Tropical Dives) is one of the few dive operator in Miri. Its founder - Mr Voo - is also the pioneer in diving exploration at Miri, who discovered most of the dive sites and gave the naming. BorneoDiveNetwork (Majestic Leisure & Dive) is Miri’s newest dive school offering a full range of courses in English and Mandarin as well as daily dive trips for already certified divers.

On August 1st, 1960, the Miri General Hospital, which had for long been operated by the oil company with financial assistance from the government, was handed over to the government; with it went the Miri Ferry that connects between the peninsular and town - and the hospital -, all the concession land on the Miri Peninsula south of the Miri Golf Course, and all the houses, roads and utility services within that area.
Taman Tunku is a large residential area located just beside Miri Airport spanning about 3 kilometers running from north to south with its own commercial centers within.
A place of interest, Tusan Beach is a beautiful beach area near Tusan about an hour's travel time from the city. Along the smooth sandy beach, coral reefs, a waterfall, several cliffsides and a defining feature; a large cliff with a arch eroded through it dubbed the "Drinking Horse".
