Borneo Jazz Festival is a yearly Jazz festival event held every year in Miri. Latin Jazz, contemporary Jazz, Caribbean Jazz, Asian Jazz and much more, different genres of jazz music find their way to the northern most city in Sarawak for an outdoor international festival with the ambience of intimate Jazz clubs.
The Borneo Jazz (previously known as Miri International Jazz Festival) event is usually held every May at the Pavillion at Parkcity Everly hotel. The 15th Borneo Jazz in 2020 will take place at the Coco Cabana, off Marina Bay area.

Seahorse Island (not its official name) is planned to be a man-made island, in the shape of Miri's mascot - the seahorse - for the 3rd phase of the Brighton Beach's redevelopment master plan. Once completed this island will be about 800 metres off the coast from Brighton Beach, and planned to feature recreational, commercial and residential areas.
The other momentous event in 1957 was the decision made by the oil company to relinquish some 75% of the land concession in the hinterland of Sarawak after explorationary surveys had shown no indications of oil.
The Old Miri Airport was planned and built in the 1970s, where a demand for a more modern and longer runway was needed to accommodate Fokker 50s and the Boeing 737s for a booming commercial aviation as commercial flying became a more affordable way to travel.
