Tuak is a rice wine and is a specialty drink of longhouses. Visit a longhouse and the host will welcome you with a glass of tuak. The sweet fragrance of the longhouse tuak is highly deceiving as the drink is a potent alcoholic drink, and for those not used to alcohol, a small glass is enough to send you on a spin.
The beverage is a popular drink among the Dayaks during the Gawai festivals, weddings, hosting of guests and other special occasions.

On the Sunday of 21st, May, 1994, the "Miri Resort City" Publicity Launch Campaign was launched. The very grand occassion featured lots of shows, grand exhibitions with impressive publicity on what the future of Miri would hold.
