The City Day Celebration started in 2005, after the official upgrade in status from town to city, although the May Fest celebration has been celebrated annually since 1989. Major celebrations are planned throughout the month of May every year, such as events open to public participation, musical, dancing/singing or cultural and arts events, sporting events, youth events, charity events, trade and food fairs, events that are open to International teams or participants, and events that attract big crowds from the general public that are well received. Some of the past events include anything from children's coloring contests, to large scale marathons that cover a distance from one part of the city to another.
The month of May is a good time to visit Miri to experience the May Festival. Events vary from one year to another, be sure to grab a copy of the Calendar of Events when in Miri.

The Brighton is Miri's first luxury condominium, located at Brighton next to the Parkcity Everly hotel, overlooking the Miri River and offering panaromic views of the South China Sea and its beautiful seaside sunsets.

Contrary to a particularly popular inaccurate online map's insistence on it being the main river along Miri Peninsular, the Baong River is NOT Miri's main river.
The Lambir Canopy Walkway project was jointly coordinated by Abang Abdul Hamid, an Entomologist with the Forest Department of Sarawak together with the late Professor Tamiji Inoue of the Center for Ecological Research, Kyoto University. ProfessorTamiji Inoue was killed in a plane crash in Lambir Hills National Park.
Myy Mall Shopping Complex, Lutong township's first shopping complex. Described as a “suburban family friendly mall”, the mall opened to the general public in 2013.
